Render Unto Caesar The Things Which Are Caesar's
And
Unto God The Things Which Are God's

Matthew 22:21

Jesus taught us principals with which to live a Godly life.   This is one such principal.   What would be some of the things we should render unto our leaders?   Respect, (Romans 13:1-7) we are to be subject to those who have rule over us because God has ordained them to their office.   We are to pay our taxes. Romans 13:6.    We are to obey the laws of the land. 1 Peter 2:13.    If we want to be a witness of Jesus we need to obey the law.   If the speed limit is 55 and we are doing 60 the "trust in Jesus" bumper sticker will only bring reproach on our Saviour.   We need to remember to pray for our leaders that they will do a good job.

In Luke 12 verse 42 we see that the Pharisees were very good at tithing, but they did not love God.   Jesus said, "Except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven."  (Matthew 5:20).   How can our righteousness exceed that of the Pharisees?   By placing our faith and trust in the work of our Lord Jesus for salvation.   By serving Him out of love for Him who first loved us, and while we were yet sinners gave His life for us.    Jesus gave us the example of a widow woman who gave two very small coins.   It was all that she had.   Jesus told His disciples, "This poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury:   For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living."  So you see for one who loves God who gave His only begotten Son to die that we might live.   It becomes a question of not how much we should give.   We owe Him everything.   But how little should we keep to live on.

We should live our lives very carefully, not to waist what the Lord has entrusted to us.   Not spending foolishly but always having something in reserve so that when there is a need we are able to be charitable.   Some people have their lives spent up ahead of time with credit cards.   This is an ungodly way to live and leaves us with nothing with which to serve the Lord.   With every expenditure we should consider, How is this to the honor and the glory of the Lord?   If Christians would follow this simple example, one tenth would seem a way too small amount to offer God.    Give Him your best and your all.
